Description

The majestic mountain ranges of western North Carolina are just outside your door when camping at Kirkland Creek Campground in Bryson City, located a short drive from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. With convenient access to Hwy 74, the campground offers guests easy to use online reservations and has plenty of RV sites and tent sites, as well as several rental cabins from which to choose. Close proximity to the Tuckaseegee River affords plenty of opportunities for fishing and boating and the onsite swimming pool at this seasonal camp, open from April 1 to October 31, provides the perfect spot to cool off on a warm summer day.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park provides the perfect backdrop for a camping vacation to remember, with forested mountains full of regional wildlife such as deer, elk, fox, and over 30 different bird species. 2,000 plus miles of streams are perfect for trout fishing and over 800 miles of trails are available for hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding. Just a twelve mile drive from this scenic park, the Blue Ridge Parkway is a 469 mile stretch of road known as 'America┬┐s Favorite Drive' and has many overlooks, picnic areas, trails and historic sites to stop at along the way.

The Nantahala Outdoor Center, also close to camp, is an ideal white-water rafting venue, as well as kayaking and canoeing on the many area rivers. For a little indoor activity, Harrah's Cherokee Casino, just ten miles away, is one of the state's largest attractions, with live shows, five restaurants, and more than 3,500 video gaming machines. Whether hiking to the waterfalls of Cade's Cove, or touring through the quaint towns that dot the region, Kirkland Creek Campground is the perfect base camp from which to discover the mountain region of North Carolina.

The couple who owned the campground were very accomodating and friendly, but we rented an onsite facility and it was mildewy and had been there quite a while. Bathroom facility was not very clean and the water pressure in the shower was almost none. Was quite at night. Might go back and take our tent to sleep in. That area was shaded and nice.

We stayed for one day. We were a little disappointed when we first arrived as we were pulling a rather large travel trailer. Once we got settled, we did enjoy ourselves and the owners were nice. The trout pond was fun for the kids and it was nice to be able to have fresh fish for dinner. Really wasn't a bad place, but it is pretty small.
